Beyond AI
Artificial intelligence is a component of the cognitive enterprise, not its definition. Confusing the two leads organizations to buy models when they need memory.

The current enthusiasm for AI has produced a category error: the belief that becoming a cognitive enterprise means adopting AI. It does not. AI is a powerful component — it can read, summarize, retrieve, and draft at a scale no team can match. But a model with no memory of the organization’s reasoning is a brilliant consultant with amnesia.
The cognitive enterprise is defined not by its models but by its treatment of reasoning as a durable asset. AI accelerates the capture, retrieval, and application of judgment. It does not, by itself, create the institutional memory that judgment requires. 1

This is why the project talks about architecture before intelligence. Put the reasoning layer in place, and AI becomes extraordinarily useful within it. Skip the layer, and AI becomes one more source of ungrounded output the organization will fail to remember.
