Cognition
Organizational Cognition Loop
The continuous cycle of Observe → Understand → Reason → Decide → Learn that drives improving judgment.
The Canon · Part IV — The Cognitive Stack
The stack in motion
The loop expresses cognition as a living cycle — Observe, Understand, Reason, Decide, Learn — rather than a static hierarchy. It is the Cognitive Stack seen in motion, the path a single decision travels from reality to outcome.
Learning completes cognition
The Canon’s seventh principle holds that learning completes cognition: every important decision should leave the organization better able to make the next one. A decision from which nothing is learned is cognition left unfinished.
The loop turns the outcome of a decision back into better identity, ontology, memory, and reasoning the next time. That feedback is why cognition compounds rather than merely repeats.
